  • Point Judith Deck Hand
I love to photograph around the docks of Point Judith, RI. This young deck hand was covered with grease after a long day of repairs on the Newport, RI fishing boat. Most women who have seen this photo have asked me for more information about him.

This office has to win the Olympic Gold Medal for clutter. I'm sure the young workman in this photo is praying that he is not going to be the one to sort all of this out.

  • Rhode Island Mural Painter
On a hot summer day, I met Bob Bratigan, a professional outdoor mural painter by the beach at Conimicut Point Park in Rhode Island. He was in the process of creating an ocean scene on the entire wall of the shingled house. He seemed to be creating this wonderful display of fish and ocean and sky without looking at any plans. I came back a few days later and the entire wall was filled with a glorious panorama of Rhode Island and Narragansett Bay.

Every summer, Linda and I can't wait for the first day when the sweet corn and big plump tomatoes make their debut at the Morris Farm.

  • Home Air Flow Test Expert
We wanted to upgrade the energy efficiency of our home. The National Grid program in RI had a free service to evaluate the loss of heat and cooling. This expert attached a red curtain to our front door, turned on a giant fan, and tested the airflow with his portable computer. Over the next hour, he checked all doors, windows, and insulation in the house and assured us that they could make our home very efficient. This service and the labor was free!

Rhode Island Men at Work

Over the last two years, we have been remodeling our house and have had the good fortune to meet lots of very talented workmen from all over Rhode Island. At every stage of the job, I would ask them if I could take their photos while they worked. Here is the results of all of their work!

We also met many other workmen who worked the docks of Point Judith, greeted us on the train, provided us with wonderful produce, and sold us some great finds at the local flea market.
